| November 2011: This month we are highlighting our participatory community design projects. Check out our "Political Urbanism" portfolio section which highlights our projects over the years in India, San Francisco and Oakland -- including recent work in the Oakland's Broadway Auto Row district for East Bay Housing Organizations. As a mission driven firm, we feel important to remember the roots of the affordable housing industry and to contribute our design skills to non-profit organizing efforts that are re-defining the field. October 2011: Keller Plaza starts construction this month. Built in 1973 this 201 unit HUD / Tax Credit substantial renovation project, for the Oakland Housing Authority / Mosaic, is our largest project to date. With three-stories of wood frame housing over concrete podiums, the buildings are undergoing major face-lifts: transforming from plain boxes into contemporary urban buildings. Salazar Architects Inc. had the lead role in re-designing the building skin and is working in collaboration with SGPA (Arch. of Record) through all phases of development. September 2011: We have some big news this month...we are in the process of opening an office in Washington DC. With so many national level affordable housing programs and organizations based there, this is an exciting shift. It will allow us to grow the firm in a unique way, broaden our understanding affordable housing policies, and better position the firm to do design and advocacy work. August 2011: Our Tenant Improvement project for Community Housing Partnership wrapped up Construction Documents this month, and starts construction in October. This 10,000 square foot substantial renovation will bring together the Program Services and Administration sides of this supportive housing developer. We are thrilled to help CHP! July 2011: Kenneth Henry Court is wrapping up Construction Documents at the end of this month. Built in the early 1990s this Tax Credit / Redevelopment funded moderate renovation project, for Satellite Housing, is one of the OCHI properties that is in need of some tender-loving-care. Construction is due to start in early 2012. June 2011: We moved offices! We're now in the Dogpatch neighborhood, working from an industrial warehouse space that overlooks downtown San Francisco and the bay. It's an exciting shift because the building houses dozens and dozens of other entrepreneurial businesses, including many architecture firms...more changes are in the works...stay tuned... |
