We stand for gender equity + reproductive choice + abortion rights

The recent ruling by the Supreme Court denying bodily autonomy and access to safe, legal abortions is oppression in its purest form. It is oppression rooted in racism, white supremacy, classism, patriarchy, and misogyny. Black, Brown, and Indigenous women already experience disproportionate barriers to housing and healthcare, and suffer higher rates of maternal mortality – and this ruling will further those disparities and create irreparable harm. Furthermore, the overturning of this precedent makes clear that other civil and human rights will be in jeopardy in the coming days.

There is no liberation without choice, and we unequivocally include abortion rights as a component of the human rights we believe all people should have. Our purpose for existing as a community design firm is to fight against oppression — we do the work we do, in the way we do it, for the empowerment and liberation of those who are most marginalized and with the least access to choice.

We don’t know what the answer is in this moment, but as we all grapple with the undeniable rise of authoritarianism and white Christian nationalism in the U.S., we will move forward in solidarity with all those who are and will be harmed by this assault on their human rights. We will be looking for ways to help in this fight, including pro bono design services, political advocacy, supporting our community partners and organizers, and ensuring that our internal policies and practices support the health and well-being of our staff.
