Artifact at The Heights

Market hall, urban infill affordable & workforce housing

The Heights District of Vancouver, Washington, is currently undergoing a redevelopment and is envisioned as a vibrant neighborhood center that prioritizes sustainable, healthy, equitable, accessible, and safe design.

Artifact is located at the corner of E Mill Plain Blvd and N Devine Rd. The building will be a 4-story wood-framed affordable housing building, with a portion of the ground floor dedicated to a commercial market hall planned as tenant-improved space. The main residential entrance is at the corner of N Devine Rd and the new North Loop that is anticipated to be developed. There is a secondary residential entry located at the corner of E Mill Plain Blvd and N Devine Rd. The building will be courtyard-shaped with surface parking in the interior courtyard.

The design concept is inspired by the basalt columns and lush greenery of the Columbia Gorge. In the exterior, this is achieved using ribbed and corrugated metal panels. The interior design continues the theme of the Gorge and reflects the different layers that can be seen (river, lush forest, tall rock walls.
